Grade 6: Emergency Preparedness

Teaching Points:

  • Top 10 potential emergencies for the Region of Waterloo

  • “Go-Kits”
  • “Shelter-in-place Kits”
  • “Emergency vehicle Kits”


Followed by classroom teaching, students are divided into two groups for “hands on application” to create kits.  Each group is given “special considerations” for their specific family such as having a dog, a baby or a medically dependent adult.

Group One

  • Assembles a Go Kit
  • Family leaves home for 72 hours

Group Two

  • Assembles a Shelter-in-Place Kit
  • Family needs to stay in home for 72 hours
