2016 Halloween in the Village
The Waterloo Region Children’s Safety Village hosted its Annual Halloween in the Village on Saturday, October 22, 2016. While the weather was cold it was dry! What a glorious change from the past few years!
The event continues to grow every year and this year’s attendance was the best yet with 675 children plus parents touring the Village in two hours. We had tremendous support from our volunteers and building sponsors who helped run the event. Thank you to the 100 of you!
23 Building Sponsors participated this year. Families were able to view police and fire vehicles while waiting in line and were visited by Sparky the Fire Dog and Savatar the Smoke Alarm.
Officer Grandy (a.k.a Cat in the Hat) provided safety tips to attendees before they went Trick or Treating in the Village. Each child was given a trick or treat bag and a Rogers reflective arm band to be used on Halloween night. Building sponsors and volunteers, dressed in costume, gave away treats to eager children. Outside children participated in games and activities such as pumpkin bowling, mini golf, beanbag toss and jumped in a Bouncy Castle.
Inside the Village participants enjoyed crafts, colouring, movies and refreshments. The Witches Kitchen was a scary brew that provided kids with the chance to “guess the body parts” in the witches cauldron filled with monster nails, monster teeth, beetle bodies, intestines, brains and more.
All proceeds from Halloween in the Village will be put directly into our safety education programs.
The Safety Village would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Waterloo Regional Police Auxiliary Unit for their assistance and would like to thank the sponsors and volunteers who supported Halloween in the Village.
On behalf of the Waterloo Region Children’s Safety Village – thank you to all our Sponsors, Volunteers and Community Members who came out to participate in this year’s Halloween in the Village.
